DIRK ELSTON, MD

He completed his dermatology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, followed by a fellowship under the tutelage of Wilma Bergfeld. After serving as chairman of the dermatology department at Brooke Army Medical Center/Wilford Hall Medical Center and director of the dermatology department at Geisinger Medical Center, he moved on to his current position as director of the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology. Dr. Elston has served on numerous committees of the AMA, AAD, ABD, ASDP, Institute of Medicine and ABP, including the board of directors of the ABD, ASDP and AAD where he currently is the president.
His prolific nature is astounding with more than 300 peer-reviewed journal articles, author/editor of eight textbooks, including the Requisites in Dermatology series, fifty-three textbook chapters, and other electronic resources. He also serves editorial roles for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Journal of Dermatopathology. He is a sought after and invited lecturer at national, international, and regional meetings and courses.
Along with these contributions he promotes the future of our specialty through strong mentorship of future leaders and his work on quality, billing, and education. He is devoted and works tireless for the advancement of our field.
